§ 3-35. Prohibited signs.

  • The following types of signs are prohibited in every zoning district:

    (1)

    Roof signs (which means signs mounted above a roof or projecting above the roofline of a structure or painted on the roof).

    (2)

    Rotating signs, except for barber poles attached to barber shops.

    (3)

    Moving signs or signs with moving parts. This includes, but is not limited to, animated signs involving motion or sound; signs with moving words; signs with waiving elements, whether motorized or wind-powered; or similar moving signs. "Moving signs" does not include multiple-message signs as defined herein.

    (4)

    Signs on public rights-of-way other than publicly-owned or maintained signs.

    (5)

    Signs which contain words, pictures or statements, which are obscene, as defined by the O.C.G.A. § 16-12-80.

    (6)

    Signs which simulate an official traffic control or warning sign or hides from view any traffic or street sign, signal or public service sign.

    (7)

    Signs which emit or utilize in any manner any, sound capable of being detected on any traveled road or highway by a person with normal hearing.

    (8)

    Signs which interfere with road or highway visibility or obstruct or otherwise interfere with the safe and orderly movement of traffic.

    (9)

    Any sign that interferes with utilities such as water mains and hydrants, sanitary sewerage, gas, electricity, and communications equipment or lines, or that interferes with natural or manmade stormwater drainage facilities.

    (10)

    Portable signs as defined herein, shall be prohibited in any zoning classification after January 1, 2015.
